Parade 03:11 video
PARADE Say it out loud I watch the words drip out your mouth And you split your lip with honesty And then we stood in line all day for the parade Nothing much left to add Nothing much left to say Sometimes you’re left Sometimes you leave Tear out the seams Threading through my mind like a bad dream A strand of gold shines in the light It must be almost time to call it for today And then you watch, you watch, you watch, you watch, you wait and watch And then you watch, you watch, you watch, you watch, you wait and watch And then you watch, you watch, you watch, you watch, you wait and watch And then you watch, you watch, you watch, you watch, you wait and watch Draw it all out Just to break the time in my mind’s eye We engineer it end to end And then we pour it out not at all how we meant And then you watch, you watch, you watch, you watch, you wait and watch And then you watch, you watch, you watch, you watch, you wait and watch And then you watch, you watch, you watch, you watch, you wait and watch And then you watch, you watch, you watch, you watch, you wait and watch I’m outside and waiting for the rain On a cold clear night I’m outside and waiting for the rain On a cold clear night

Messy Roomz 03:50
MESSY ROOMS In my room I keep oh so much hidden Under, behind, and between Tell all of your stupid friend about me I couldn’t care less – no What’s gone and what remains Of all of the love you take? Give us your watch and your wallet dummy Do you think this is just a joke? Go on, run son, back to dad and mommy I should’ve known then – oh What’s gone and what remains Of all of the love you take? Tell me What’s gone and what remains Of all of the love you take? I won’t change my mind, no It won’t change in time What’s gone and what remains Of all of the love you take? Tell me What’s gone and what remains Of all of the love you take? Tell me What’s gone and what remains Of all of the love you take?

Reach Out 04:35
REACH OUT Reach out, reach out, reach out, reach out my love Don’t you know that nothing ever goes the way we want it, despite what they say So reach out, reach out, reach out, reach out my love Don’t you know that nothing ever goes the way you want it, despite what they say Despite what they say And I’m coming home to you, home to you, I’m coming home. Reach out, reach out, reach out, reach out my love Don’t you know that nothing ever goes the way we want it, despite what they say So reach out, reach out, reach out, reach out my love Don’t you know that nothing ever goes the way we want it, despite what they say Despite what they say And I’m coming home to you, home to you, I’m coming home.

CALGARY ’88 Love is not a thing we mould, sell and withhold Tell me all the ways you know I’ve wronged you so Cross the lying eyes, how he tries it all! So we start again from two – sorry, not you I don’t believe it, hey I’m sorry baby I just maybe Kissed someone new Who wasn’t you – oh I’m sorry baby I might maybe Try something new That isn’t you Past the statue where you said, no-one would know Fingers down my back to find what we don’t show A kiss, a bridge, the skies – movies come to life In the daylight comes, you’ll know it’s just ugly I don’t believe it, hey I can’t just leave it, hey I’m sorry baby I just maybe Kissed someone new Who wasn’t you – oh I’m sorry baby I might maybe Try something new That isn’t you I’m sorry baby I just maybe Kissed someone new Who wasn’t you – oh I’m sorry baby I might maybe Try something new That isn’t you So let’s leave it there, let’s not drag this down I’m a dog inside, I’ll chase everything around What was so nice was knowing you were right Once you’ve found us out, you’ll break without a fight

OSTALGIE (FÜR C. BISCHOFF) I forgot why we came (all night on the train) Why we’d stopped and why we stayed (full stop, drop the page) Germany, by the Spree (My friend, now I see) A useless thought, an awful way (my God) An acrobat falls to me (and fails to see) But tumbles off, not to remain (my love, oh) Although I tried I couldn’t stay (I want you please) It’s not the time, it’s not the place (it’s all wrong) I saw I take Thick fog in everybody’s faces No talk Just games Rules gone You’ll have to find your own way Cuz that’s just how it’s played You sell your wares, I trade my name (in the fall, I’ll wait) It doesn’t stop, it never change (How long will it take?) Germany down the way (I forgot this place) Grandfather clocks and shoulder blades (so long!) A tattooed cross below the knee (I saw you leave) Broken ribs and pottery (My love, what’s the need?) In cardboard boxes locked away (I want relief) All our words start to fade (and I’m lost) I saw I take Thick fog in everybody’s faces No talk Just games Rules gone You’ll have to find your own way Cuz that’s just how it’s played I’ll go You’ll stay Off the map Where nobody can find me You’ll know I’ve paid Off the map Where everybody’s waiting I’ll go You’ll stay Off the map Where nobody can find me You’ll know I’ve paid Off the map Where everybody’s waiting I’ll go You’ll stay Off the map Where nobody can find me You’ll know I’ve paid Off the map Where everybody’s waiting

Fastest 03:32
FASTEST The window’s wide and our hearts glide Just as fast as we can run Don’t look back cause if you do, we will leave you in the dust Squares and patterns to match our mood What we feel is what we know Colour beams in the sunrise of our lives Can you run faster Can you be fastest Run ‘til your lungs burst Don’t be so serious Narrowed eyes blinded in the light on a lazy afternoon I don’t care and I don’t care if you do I guess that’s just how it is these days Clocking in and spinning out Colour beams and the scattered dreams of our youth Can you run faster Can you be fastest Run ‘til your lungs burst Don’t be so serious Can you run faster Can you be fastest Run ‘til your lungs burst Don’t be so serious (Colour dreams of our lives) Can you be fastest Can you run faster (Colour dreams of our lives) Can you be fastest Can you run faster (Colour dreams of our lives) Can you be fastest Can you run faster

Tattoo Boy 04:36
TATTOO BOY Through a city rain He just walked away Thinking he’d been found Here we go again Just another name Kindly show him out Past the howling train I’m a dirty shame Nowhere left but down I’m afraid of pain Like a fear of snakes Man, I got sound If you stay the night There’s another flight Really you should have known My name on your left collarbone That ink never dries (Did you go away? Is it fading?) Bright and monochrome Empty your dream home Throw the keys away All we’ve ever known Never fully grown Who am I to wait? But then ... Call your boyfriend Tell him it’s come to the end Wait until he’s not broken Show some respect And in the morning Act like it’s all forgotten I know I’m the one you wanted It doesn’t mean that you’re in Come good home and Leave it out in the open I’ve put up my best defence I think it’s working We deserve what we get Don’t hesitate for one second Think about what you did It’s all off It’s not what you said But really it’s just what you meant Not sure if we’ll meet again Tell me how to trust this And in the noises The sound gets lost in the messes Is this what it means to be blessed? Is this what it’s like to win? I think I’ll leave this I think I’ll leave this I think I’ll leave

TABLE OF CONTENTS Come right to the centre A perfect companion To honour the handshake deal Of an empty apartment To vanish inside It’s a regular stand in A perfect companion to Where I go in my time off and what do I do then? I float through the centre I flatten into the line On a triangle road leading into the mountains Just follow the instructions Just follow the instructions You think, if you write it out You think, you can think it through You write, can you write until the sky goes dark and time becomes a spark If you write it out You think, you can think it through You write, can you write until the sky goes dark and time becomes a spark Come right to the centre To honour the handshake deal Of an empty apartment to vanish inside It’s a regular stand in A perfect companion to Where I go in my time off and what do I do then? I Fall Out 04:08
I FALL OUT I fall out Soft as a morning arrow I fall out Twice before in all good measure I call out No-one has any bother So I fall out Another gone, another feather Don’t count me out Calls coming from inside your house Nobody else knows It’s only ours – oh I fall out Tied like a perfect sailor I fall out Made once but not together I’ve no doubt You’re the rose and I’m the heather So I fall out Another song, another measure But don’t count me out Calls coming from inside your house Nobody else knows It’s only ours – oh And I won’t ever give out I’ve never quite forgot what it’s all about Nobody else knows It’s only ours – oh No, no, does anyone else know? No, does anyone else know? No, does anyone else know? No, does anyone else know? No

Visions 04:37
VISIONS I’ve been swimming with visions Branching out of pedals and leaves It goes on and on and on And turns into the worst of the dreams We’re all waiting, where are you? What will make it suddenly clear? We’re all waiting, where are you? Stuck between an ongoing loop One thing you should know It’s never about you In the darkness of the night I tumble awaken The whole thing makes me feel A little uneasy Then again, what doesn’t? Now I’ve got something on side That makes me feel better than fine I’ve been swimming with visions I see you reaching over to me It goes on and on and on I’m helpless here to know what it means We’re all waiting, where are you? The ceremony’s ready to start We’re all here but where are you? Stuck between an ongoing loop One thing you should know It’s never about you In the darkness of the night I tumble, awaken The whole thing makes me feel A little uneasy Then again, what doesn’t? Now I’ve got something on side That makes me feel better than fine I’ve been swimming with visions The vines grow long and thick on the ground It goes on and on and on I can’t seem loosen my foot We’re all waiting, where are you? Stuck between repetitive loops We’re all waiting, where are you? Stuck between repetitive loops Stuck between repetitive loops

about

In 2018, Billboard proclaimed Frontperson, the musical collaboration between Kathryn Calder (vocalist and keyboardist for The New Pornographers) and Mark Andrew Hamilton (AKA Woodpigeon) to be “Musical love at first sight.” Now after a short pandemic-pause, the duo is pleased to announce their sophomore album Parade will be released on April 29, 2022 digitally and on limited edition CD and LP via Oscar St. Records.

The songs of Parade pick up the pace, turn up the volume and expand the duo’s palette of sounds across an album full of surprising twists and expertly executed range. Calder’s vocals are at turns soaring (as on lead single “Parade”) or bitter-sweet (the shoegazey album closer “Visions”), while Hamilton’s songwriting explores backdrops of ‘80s rock he grew up hating (a nod to Dire Straits’ pristine guitar tones on “Messy Roomz”) and queer heartbreak (the swooning “Tattoo Boy”). From its laser-sharp songwriting to its layered headphone mini-symphonies, Parade proves Frontperson are more than ready for round 2.
